Joy (Happiness)

Thanksgiving ought to be a part of every prayer; and whatever is the matter of our rejoicing ought to be the matter of our thanksgiving.  [MHBC – Col 1]

How futile are all schemes of man’s devising for securing the favour of God and his own happiness. None of them reach the real evils in his case. They do not dispose of sin, either in its power, or guilt, or pollution.  [ROOS]

There is no grace that fills the hearts of believers with more gratitude and joy than being delivered from backsliding. [TGOC]

Author:

We never read that Jesus Christ was more cheerful in all his life on earth, than when he was going to lay down his life for us. [ALE]

Without the diligent use of the grace of obedience, we shall never enjoy the graces of joy, peace and assurance. [TGOC]

Author:

If men would be safe, or wise, or holy, or happy, or useful, or strong, or victorious; let them look to Jesus, let them look to none else, let them walk in him, abide in him, glory in him, and count as loss all things besides. [ROOS]

Can the sinner be merry who is heir to all God’s curses, and does not know how soon he may take up his lodgings among the damned?  [TGMP]

True happiness consists; not in beauty, honour, riches (the world’s trinity), but in the forgiveness of sin. (Psalm 32:1)  [TGMP]

Satan hath snares for the wise and snares for the simple; snares for hypocrites, and snares for the upright; snares for generous souls, and snares for timorous souls; snares for the rich, and snares for the poor; snares for the aged, and snares for youth. Happy are those souls that are not taken and held in the snares that he hath laid! [PRASD]

It is not the knowing, nor the talking, nor the reading man, but the doing man, that at last will be found the happiest man. ‘If you know these things, blessed and happy are you if you do them.’ [PRASD]
