Election - Predestination

So wonderful was Christ’s suretyship, and so perfect was the confidence of God in the engagements of the Surety, that “the souls of the elect were saved upon trust for four thousand years.”  [ROOS]

Effectual calling runs parallel with eternal election.  [ASGTH]

Rebels argue, ‘If I am elected I shall be saved, do what I will. If not, I shall be damned, do what I can.’ Perverse sinner, will you begin where you should end? Is not the word before you? What saith it? ‘Repent and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.’… Do not stand still disputing about your election, but set to repenting and believing. [ASGTH]

You begin at the wrong end if you first dispute about your election. Prove your conversion, and then never doubt your election. [ASGTH]

The Arminian describes election as “God votes for you; the devil votes against you, and you must cast the deciding vote”. The problem with this, as has well been pointed out, is that when election took place, man was too young to vote (not being born yet), the devil wasn’t a registered voter, and so election was wholly of God!
