Bible Reading - Bible Study

It is neglect of meditation that keeps so many Christians in a feeble state, regardless of their privileges. They hear of these things and assent to the truth of them or at least do not question them. But they never solemnly meditate on them. [TGOC]

Author:

Let us read the Bible reverently and diligently, with an honest determination to believe and practice all we find in it. It is no light matter how we use this book. Above all, let us never read the Bible without praying for the teaching of the Holy Spirit. He alone can apply truth to our hearts, and make us profit by what we read. [JCRC – Mat 1]

Author:

Christ could have overcome Satan by power, but he did it by argument.  [TBR]

If it be not strong upon thy heart to practice what thou readest, to what end dost thou read? To increase thy own condemnation? If thy light and knowledge be not turned into practice, the more knowing man thou art, the more miserable man thou wilt be in the day of recompense; thy light and knowledge will be that rod that will eternally lash thee, and that scorpion that will for ever bite thee, and that worm that will everlastingly gnaw thee; therefore read, and labour to know, that thou mayest do, or else thou art undone for ever.  [PRASD]

Apply yourself wholly to the Word, and then apply the Word wholly to yourself.

Author:

You need to get into God’s Word if God’s Word is ever going to get into you. You must put your heart into its study, if it is going to get into your heart.

Author:

Remember, it is not hasty reading, but serious meditating upon holy and heavenly truths, that make them prove sweet and profitable to the soul. It is not the bee’s touching of the flower that gathers honey, but her abiding for a time upon the flower that draws out the sweet. It is not he that reads most, but he that meditates most, that will prove the choicest, sweetest, wisest and strongest Christian. [PRASD]
